GENEVA CALLING: CHERNOR BAH CARRIES SIERRA LEONE’S CIVIC VOICE TO THE WORLD:

By David K.Fengai

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, is in Geneva, Switzerland, where he is participating in the 31st AFS Youth Assembly, a major international gathering focused on youth leadership, civic participation and global challenges.

The three-day assembly, taking place from 12 to 14 August at the World Health Organization Headquarters, has brought together young people, policymakers and leaders from more than 100 countries. The gathering provides an important platform for participants to exchange ideas, share experiences and explore practical approaches to empowering young people to become active contributors to their societies.

Minister Bah is expected to use the international platform to showcase Sierra Leone’s experience in civic education and youth empowerment, highlighting efforts aimed at strengthening young people’s understanding of citizenship, democratic participation and their responsibilities in national development.

His participation also places Sierra Leone’s civic education agenda on an important global stage, allowing the country to share lessons while learning from initiatives being implemented in other parts of the world.

The assembly comes at a time when youth participation is increasingly recognised as critical to building peaceful, inclusive and resilient societies. For Sierra Leone, the engagement offers an opportunity to project its civic education efforts internationally while strengthening partnerships around youth development and leadership.

Bah’s presence in Geneva therefore represents more than an official engagement; it is a chance for Sierra Leone to amplify its voice in global conversations about the future of young people and the role they must play in shaping their nations.
