By David K.Fengai

President Julius Maada Bio has summoned the Parliament of Sierra Leone to resume parliamentary proceedings on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chamber of Parliament in the Parliament Building, Tower Hill, Freetown.

The summons was formally communicated by the Clerk of Parliament, Karmoh K. Conteh, in an official notice dated August 13, 2026, addressed to the leadership and Members of Parliament.

According to the notice, President Bio has recalled Parliament pursuant to Section 86(1) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, Act No. 6 of 1991, to facilitate the resumption of parliamentary business. Members of Parliament have consequently been directed to attend the sitting and ensure that they are present on time.

The recall also carries significance for Presidential nominees awaiting parliamentary scrutiny. The Clerk has advised all nominees to undergo the usual parliamentary vetting process and make themselves available for consideration and approval on the scheduled date.

The August 20 sitting is therefore expected to mark the formal return of Parliament to active proceedings following the President’s recall. With the House set to reconvene within seven days, attention will now turn to the legislative and approval matters awaiting consideration by lawmakers.

The development signals a renewed phase of parliamentary activity, with elected representatives expected to return to the Chamber to discharge their constitutional responsibilities and deliberate on matters of national importance.
