In a major legal development that has sent shockwaves through Sierra Leone’s political landscape, a High Court in Freetown has issued an interim injunction restraining two of the All People’s Congress (APC) top officials from exercising executive authority.

The court order, granted after an ex parte application heard in the Judge’s Chambers on Thursday, August 27, 2026, specifically restrains Osman Foday Yansaneh and Lansana Dumbuya from holding themselves out as executive members of the APC. The injunction directly targets the functions reserved for the party’s National Chairman and Leader and National Secretary General respectively.

According to the ruling, both men are prohibited from convening or attending executive meetings, superintending the affairs of the APC, and carrying out any activities associated with the day-to-day running of the party. They are also barred from performing any duties synonymous with the offices of National Chairman and Leader or National Secretary General.

The injunction will remain in effect pending the hearing and determination of the substantive application, or until further order of the Court.

In a stern warning, the Court stated that any person who disobeys the order may be found guilty of contempt of court. Possible penalties include imprisonment, a fine, or the seizure of assets.

This ruling places the APC’s internal governance and upcoming party activities in immediate limbo, as members await the next court date. Political observers say the decision could reshape the balance of power within the main opposition party ahead of critical national engagements.
