“BUILDING THE TEACHERS OF THE ARMY: 45 RSLAF INSTRUCTORS SHIPPED TO GHANA FOR ELITE TRAINING”

Forty-five Sierra Leone Military instructors have departed for advanced training in Ghana, in what defence authorities are calling a major investment in the future of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, RSLAF.

Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for Training, Doctrine and Education, Brigadier General Kwame Francis Kanu, said the seven-week training course is part of the broader efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura, to enhance the instructional capacity and professional competence of RSLAF.

“The strength of any army lies in the quality of its instructors,” Brig Gen Kanu stated at the farewell ceremony in Freetown. “These officers and soldiers will return not just as trainers, but as architects of doctrine who will shape the next generation of soldiers.”

According to Lieutenant Colonel Yayah Brima Esq, Director of Defence Public Relations and Information, the training of the instructors is in line with current international standards and the RSLAF’s operational requirements.

Lt Col Brima explained that the Ghana deployment will focus on modern instructional techniques, leadership development, curriculum design, and mission command. The aim is to ensure RSLAF training institutions meet the demands of peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and regional security operations.

Military analysts note the move signals a shift from ad-hoc training to a more professional, standards-based system within the RSLAF. With ECOWAS security threats evolving and Sierra Leone taking a more active role in regional stability, the need for highly competent instructors has become urgent.

The 45 instructors are expected to return in seven weeks and will be deployed across training schools and depots nationwide to cascade the knowledge gained.

For the CDS and his command, the message is clear: a stronger RSLAF begins in the classroom.
