“FROM PROMISES TO CONCRETE: PRESIDENT BIO TURNS ECOWAS WORDS INTO WALLS, WAREHOUSES, AND WAR-ROOMS IN LUNGI”

LUNGI, SIERRA LEONE — President of Sierra Leone and Chairman of ECOWAS, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has said the newly commissioned ECOWAS facilities in Lungi are proof that the bloc is done talking and ready to act.

Speaking at the official commissioning of the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre, President Bio emphasized that the new infrastructure will significantly strengthen the region’s capacity to respond to peace and security challenges before they spiral.

“The depot is established to strengthen ECOWAS’s operational capacity and its ability to support peace missions, humanitarian assistance, and emergency response whenever the region is called upon to act,” he told dignitaries gathered in Lungi.

He broke down the architecture of the new hub. According to him, the administrative facility will serve as the central nervous system for regional operations.
“The administrative facility serves as a command hall for planning, logistics, equipment, and mission support. Efficient coordination is the backbone of every successful regional operation.”

President Bio also pointed to the human element. The training facility, he said, is designed to forge a common doctrine across uniforms and agencies.
“The training facility will host military, police, civilian, and humanitarian personnel from across Africa to train together, share expertise, and strengthen doctrine and professionalism, enabling ECOWAS to respond effectively to evolving challenges.”

The commissioning comes at a time when West Africa faces complex threats — from insurgency to climate-driven displacement. By putting brick, mortar and logistics behind policy, President Bio argued, ECOWAS is signaling a new era of preparedness.

He concluded with a direct message to citizens of the region.
“Together, these facilities reinforce our shared commitment to peace, stability, and regional solidarity. It is ECOWAS putting infrastructure behind its promise to protect citizens.”

With Lungi now hosting both a world-class conference centre and an operational ECOWAS depot, Sierra Leone cements its position as a frontline state for diplomacy, logistics, and regional security.
